Its more than just a job - page 4

To best support our clients, we all need to possess a shared
understanding of what it means to work at ACSO.
Working at ACSO
Our shared values are at the centre of everything
we do...
Across ACSO programs and services, our values are an integral part of
how we approach our work. All staff at ACSO are expected to live these values in
everything that we do. How we work together, with our clients of our services and
key stakeholders are the cornerstone of our culture. Living our values and how we do
this forms part of our ongoing supervision, training and performance review process.
Our staff developed the following set of “living our values” in the workplace.
Pioneering Spirit:
I embody pioneering spirit by being resilient and overcoming obstacles, stepping
up to new challenges, embracing new opportunities and recognising gaps and
finding solutions. I acknowlege that when I am being complacent or resistant,
give up easily or don’t like to be challenged with new ideas, I am not
embodying pioneering spirit.
Belief in humanity:
I
have a strong belief in humanity when I accept people for who they are,
when I choose to see the good in people, support people’s potential to
achieve their own goals and when I embrace diversity and difference.
Being judgemental, making assumptions, not believing that people can
change and only seeing the mistakes others have made, does not
epitomise a belief in humanity.
Passion:
I am passionate when I am enthusiatic, energetic and engaged. I will
not quit, I will make a positive difference and I focus on solutions, not
problems. When I avoid tasks, won’t support change, don’t reflect on
my mistakes and when I’m happy to do the bare minimum, I
acknowledge that my passion is not at its highest.
Integrity:
My integrity drives me to be consistent in what I say and do, be ethical
and honourable, take responsibility for my actions and choose right over
easy, every timeHaving integrity means I cannot say one thing and do
another, be judgemental or dishonest, play mind gams or avoid taking
responsibility for my actions.
Our work is challenging. Not everyone is suited to it. We
understand the importance of a diverse workforce. We employ
experienced staff who have a long history of working with people with
complex needs and we employ staff with lived experience (for example
of substance abuse or mental health issues) as peer workers to draw on
this experience and support clients to make a change in their lives. All
staff working with clients will have a minimum of Certificate IV
qualification, with more than half having Graduate or Post Graduate
level qualifications.
Our work is underpinned by a code of conduct and a code of
ethics and it is a condition of employment that all of our staff understand
and adhere to these.
All staff are expected to have read, understood and undertake
their work within the limits and expectations set within these codes. In
dealing with individual clients, our staff must have a commitment to
deliver the best possible service. This requires co-operation when a client
is involved in more than one of ACSO's program areas. Staff are
encouraged to see ACSO as a whole, rather than concentrating on only
individual program areas.
